Using Colour in the Garden

Mike I'Anson is the manager of Helmsley Walled Garden.  His talk covered the use of the
colour wheel and other techniques to get your own desired effect.  He gave excellent
examples of planting schemes and examined other considerations such as time of flowering.

Helmsley need only pay once and can then visit for free for the remainder of the year!

Studley Royal (at Fountains Abbey) is a magnificent formal water garden, while Hackfall (near

top flight amateur exhibitor he made the decision to grow and retail his own Sweet Pea seeds. 
The successful business is now entering its 21st year.  Matthewman's Sweet Peas have won
numerous awards in many flower shows nationwide, including 13 consecutive Gold Medals at

Hilary Dodson "Growing Fruit in the North"

Hilary is Chair of the Northern Fruit Group and very knowledgeable about many types
of fruit. She talked about the best varieties to grow in this area, pruning, grafting and
other techniques. She also brought examples of apples, pears etc.
